Bad Meets Evil – “Above the Law” Song

This is by far the best song on the “Hell: The Sequel” album and it’s definitely worth a listen. Eminem and Royce tear it up so hard you have to listen to it two or three times in a row to let it set in.

I’ve always thought that Eminem comes at his best when he’s rapping with other people. His flow is better, the wordplay is on point, and he tones down the craziness significantly. I have no idea why it’s only two verses, the beat is epic… they should have done four verses. Each. Well, maybe two each. Whatever. My favorite part is Eminem’s:

“Came back to annihilate to the game’s in dire straits as I await
Word on Satan as I drop fall to my knees before this Ouija board
And I pray now I lay me down to sleep
I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin’ now, imagine if I awake
I’m champ bitch, I’ll never taste the canvas

I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin’ now imagine if I awake… fucking raw. This is one of those moments where I sit back and remember the things I actually appreciate about rap. The mixture of clever lyrics, slick flow, and passion. Em basically starts screaming after that and it’s even better. The energy, the flow, this is some shit that makes him unique and makes me spend money on his music. Fuck Lil Wayne.

Hmmm… I was just going to end it at that, no explanation but here it is: I’ve never heard Lil Wayne say anything clever, and by this I mean anything that you or I would not come up with on our own if we just sat down and thought about some “clever” lines to write. His flow is unremarkable, anybody can do that shit. He’s the perfect example of a mediocre rapper that never kills the mic, got lucky with some hit songs and now has become an icon, which leads to the best producers giving him first dibs on the best beats, which guarantee the most played singles on the hip hop radio stations… ah son of a bitch, now I remember why I stopped listening to rap in the first place. Em and Royce would eat that bitch alive.
